Donald Trump Has Had A Very Bad Day (PoliticusUSA link): There has been the idea out there in the media for months that Donald Trump has not been hurt by the court cases against him. Cable news types look at the Republican presidential primary polls and say these criminal charges are having no impact on the 2024 presidential race.
The general election polls don’t even ask about Trump’s 91 felony charges, and instead treat the multi-jurisdiction criminal defendant as a normal candidate running in a normal election. Pollsters also frame the election as a referendum on Joe Biden and pretend like Trump’s court cases exist in another dimension that won’t impact the 2024 election. Days like Tuesday barely scratch the surface, but they show what Donald Trump and America are in for in 2024.Trump has had a very bad day. It was a day that was supposed to be about his former lawyer Michael Cohen testifying in the civil Trump Organization fraud trial. Cohen did take the stand, and it got under Trump’s skin to such a degree that lawyers had to try to calm their client down as his former lawyer testified that the Trump business was a fraud.
The Manhattan case is just a civil trial. At most, Trump will lose a whole bunch of money and his business will shut down in New York.It is bad, but not as bad as former Trump campaign lawyer Jenna Ellis flipping on her former client and agreeing to turn over documents and testify in exchange for a plea deal.
Of the 18 criminal defendants in the Trump RICO case, four of them have taken plea deals. Three were Trump’s campaign lawyers. The lawyers were some of the architects of the fake elector scheme and the plot to overturn the 2020 election. For the first time in his life, Trump doesn’t have people around him who are willing to take the fall and protect him. Trump’s co-conspirators are flipping, and this is a dire situation for the failed former president.
Things are about to get even worse for Trump. He was already having a lousy day, but then it was reported that his former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows had gotten a plea deal and met multiple times with Special Counsel Jack Smith about the federal 1/6 related criminal case against Trump.Mod: Mucho mas en el link.
