Former United States President Donald Trump left his golf club in New Jersey on Thursday and headed to Georgia to turn himself in on charges related to his attempt to overturn the state's results of the 2020 election. Upon arrival in Georgia, he was booked at the Fulton County Jail and had his mug shot taken, making him the first former U.S. president to have this experience.
Trump's motorcade was led by New Jersey State Police, and he arrived at Newark Airport before boarding a plane to Atlanta. From there, it was about a one-hour drive to the jail in Fulton County. Shortly after surrendering, he was released on $200,000 bond. His attorneys and prosecutors have agreed to conditions that prevent him from intimidating co-defendants, witnesses, or victims, including on social media.
The former president has also hired a new leading attorney, a prominent criminal defense lawyer in Atlanta. The indictment against him includes 13 charges, such as violating Georgia's RICO law and filing false documents. This is the fourth time that Trump has gone through such a legal process, with cases in Georgia, New York, D.C., and Florida.
