On September 30, contemporary Christian artist and singer-songwriter David Ashley Trent releases his most personal song yet with, 'You've Been There,' a hopeful ballad inspired by a tragic family loss. Two years ago, everything changed for Trent when his little sister and only sibling was killed in a car accident. She was 32 years old. The last thing she shared on social media was a link to his music.
The song recounts the phone call Trent received letting him know that his sister, Katie, had passed away. Katie was a foster mom, and the foster child who was traveling with her at the time of her accident was miraculously unharmed. The unexpected loss brought a sadness and a grief that paused Trent’s desire to make new music, and he retreated to his faith and his family. When Trent did return to the writer’s room he did so with greater urgency and purpose than ever before. He also founded an annual summer concert to raise funds for foster care in honor of his sister. Katie’s Closet, a free resource for foster families in North Alabama, was created in part through donations received at the annual event.
Influenced by his tragic loss as well as his faith in Christ, Trent is ready to tell his story in hopes that those who are weary will find strength in his lyrics. The soulful singer/songwriter has been successful in crafting a body of work that is being praised by a growing number of music enthusiasts: contemporary Christian fans who gravitate towards the raw instrumentation of acoustic and electric guitars, and country music fans who crave a lyrical foundation rooted in Biblical scripture. Over the past fourteen years, Trent has had numerous opportunities to hone his sound, having shared his music with over 250 churches across the United States. Trent is committed to increasing the depth, reach, and kingdom impact of the music he makes and is excited about using every opportunity to declare the glory of God through music.
