Please check out Verity Credit Union, our great partner in the 100 Bands in 100 Days local music showcase.
Music fans of the Pacific Northwest, get ready for our sixth annual year-end daily local music showcase, 100 Bands in 100 Days, where every day until December 31st, we’ll be showcasing a new band or artist you have to know about. For the fourth year in a row, the showcase is once again presented by Verity Credit Union.
Make sure you are checking the #100Bands100Days hashtag on Twitter on a daily basis to stay on top of all the bands featured and be sure to follow Verity and NW_Music_Scene on there. Some days the featured act could be an established and locally-adored northwest-based musician and other times they could be a band with a small following that just hasn’t had their deserved time in the spotlight yet. Either way, we’re fairly confident you can come away from this daily segment with plenty of new favorites. Today’s featured act is Thirteen Finches.
About the band:
Thirteen Finches is a Seattle band that brings together elements of indie-rock, Americana and maybe even a touch of alt-country in places to create a rocking blend of highly listenable songs. They released their self-titled debut album in January of 2019 and aside from the stellar instrumentation and vocals, another thing that really sticks out is the top notch production. Drums were recorded at Studio Divine in Ashland, OR, with remaining tracks recorded by Johnny Sangster at Crackle & Pop! and Studio Litho in Seattle. It was brilliantly mixed and produced by Sangster and Thirteen Finches. Ed Brooks from Resonant Mastering put the final touches on the gorgeous album. You can listen to the nine song collection below and decide for yourself but we’re sure you’re gonna like it.
In 2016, Tal Goettling and Shannon Harris discovered a second love in an already abundant relationship: the natural ability to sing and write songs together. As an acoustic duo, they started performing and enlisted the help of recording engineer and bassist Scott Masoner to demo songs they had co-written. Compelled to develop the songs further, they recruited Scott to play bass, Tim Bethune on electric guitar and Matthew Kriemelman on drums for a whirlwind one-off gig in the fall of 2017. The seasoned and experienced players filled out and complemented the vocal-centric songs perfectly. Inspired by the evident chemistry of playing as a five piece, the decision was made to document this body of work they created together.
