Hosny Bronx talks Love, Music, and Culture in an Exclusive Interview w/ Mistah Wilson

"Love is the only remedy." -Hosny Bronx

Mistah Wilson: Yo, Hosny Bronx! It's an honor to have you here with us for this exclusive interview with ThaWilsonBlock Magazine. How you been?
Hosny Bronx: Thank you very much for welcoming me in your magazine for this interview, it’s a great pleasure for me.

Mistah Wilson: First and foremost, could you give our audience a quick background on yourself?
Hosny Bronx: My name is Hosny Bronx, I'm a reggae music singer. I've been playing since I was a child. I have always played Roots Reggae Music. Everything started in my ghetto, I built little by little, I felt the music of Jah, this livity that gave me courage and strength in my ghetto, it was powerful, it helped me to live, to survive. This is an important message because it saves us and sends strength to our people. I felt that vibration right away. That's why I grew up with Reggae, because it fights for our lives with all its power. That's why Rastas love this music. The Reggae fights for the oppressed, the poor people, for everyone, everyone can find themselves in this music because it shares all the human values, it's my life, I work every day. I build my tracks because it's important for me, I've always loved this mystical vibration, but you have to understand that first and foremost I work for Jah.

Mistah Wilson: What led you to become a musician?
Hosny Bronx: In fact, it came naturally when I was young. You know in the ghetto, we have no occupation, few opportunities, we are left alone, left to ourselves as humans without a specific goal and we get used to it. Nobody takes care of us, it becomes normal, so I took an instrument, I started to play first the bass then the guitar, the piano, the percussions, the vocal, like guys who professionalize in music schools. But Me, my school was in me in the ghetto and because of your color you are rejected everywhere without knowing why or how without understanding because you’re a child who discovers his color and life. Babylon decides what is good for you and dreams of whole peoples on one base which is hatred of the other. These humans have built this, and they are giving us their vision for this world that’s not mine. So you concentrate on your bass, on your instruments that you're working day by day and you become a better bassist, a better pianist and so on. And I immediately make the sound you know man that's the ghetto. We live on a planet where we feel excluded and where we are excluded from everything as in all the ghettos of the world. My family also lives in the

ghetto, it's not easy, what we want is just to be loved, to feel the love come from everywhere, we don’t want their help because it's been a long time since they don’t help us anymore. We just want to be loved as we should be and just like us who love our fellow men, you understand brother, so as they can’t send us wherever or on another planet, their dream is broken ha ha ha … They leave us alone as if we didn’t exist, and in addition to all that they make decisions for us as if we were children, they are amateurs, they think they know where they’re going, they’re destroying the earth and us with, and without the approval and without the opinion of other peoples who don’t pollute. We’re wrong way, the current path is too dark, uncontrollable. The world has changed, why are so few men making these decisions that are useless and harmful decisions for us? And In the ghetto we’re alone, and we hope all these years that people would come to help us and save us, so I chose to make music for all people. Child, I felt the strength of Jah in my body, when I was little, I was already Rasta very young anyway my mind and my conscience joined immediately to that and little by little I became what Jah decided for me, what made me become Hosny Bronx. My music comes from Jah Kingdom.

Mistah Wilson: What current and upcoming projects do you have in tha works?
Hosny Bronx: First, I released my new album "New Moment" a few months ago. I mixed and mastered it in Jamaica with my brother Mario "Syantis" Lawrence. I play all the instruments on this album, I sing lead vocal and I also sing the backing vocals, I love that brother because I can show through that all the art that Jah gave me. Today my music is at the higher level and for all those who would like me to pass this higher level, I tell them that the train is late and I took it for a long time. We have just opened the booking for new gigs around the world, some have already arrived in Holland and Jamaica and others are coming to the US, UK, South America, Europe, in many countries, so if you want gigs with me, contact my team and if you have the budget to bring Hosny Bronx it’s expensive because I was born poor. I just recorded a single with a Jamaican producer and musicians Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare, it will be released soon in Jamaica and in the US, then in the world. I'm also working on my 6th album, I'm preparing the new tracks that are even more powerful than what I've done so far but for that I need a record company with many financial means and which can assure a world implementation. I'm planning a lot of projects, I can’t talk about it yet, but it's coming up with my team.

Mistah Wilson: Who are some artists you've worked with and would like to work with in the future?
Hosny Bronx: I worked with the Wailers, the musicians of Bob Marley, on my first 3 albums. In my new album "New Moment", I mixed a song with Errol Brown, the engineer of Bob Marley, with Mario "Syantis" Lawrence my brother who mixed almost the whole album, we can say that he’s the next generation and one of the best in the world today. I also work with Gussie Clarke in Jamaica. I also mixed a song with Daniel Boyle in London, and I mastered in New York at Mastering Palace.

Mistah Wilson: Where do you draw inspiration from when writing new songs?
Hosny Bronx: My inspiration is natural. What we live in this world gives me the power to create my music full of love and full of Rasta musical strength. We must live in harmony with the earth. Today the earth is sick, with all that is happening now, typhoons, hurricanes, storms, tsunamis, many peoples are in real danger and nobody does anything, nobody reacts, nobody acts. It’s not possible.

All this inspired my song "Earth and Us". The other inspirations come to me because our people suffer, we live abominable things, we are reduced to live what some people want to do of us, we’re at their mercy, we are their puppets, their punching bags, their anti- stress, they don’t care about us, they don’t have the slightest human compassion. We are weakened but we have not chosen to be weak. I don’t complain, I just wish we were strong, the people must live in harmony with each other. There is no place on this planet for those who provoke and create hatred, the earth is made to be full of love and joy. Today men create hatred because they’re in a race that is useless and serves no one. When I say in my song "We have to start all over again", it's real, we have to start all over again. This is the music of Jah, to bring love on earth, to bring people together so that they live well, united and can love each other. This is not a utopia, this is real.

Mistah Wilson: Who are some of your top musical influences that have helped shape the artist you are today?
Hosny Bronx: My musical influences come from many different musical styles, especially reggae music but also many styles, Funk, Soul, RnB, Blues, Jazz, Hip Hop. I like all styles of music. My influences come from full of singers, first Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Jacob Miller, Hugh Mundell, but also Joe Higgs, Sugar Minot, James Brown, Michael Jackson, Otis Redding, Nina Simone, full of artists that I loved when I was little. My influences come from full of Jamaican and American music, English too. But the Jamaicans first and foremost.

Mistah Wilson: What have been some challenges and rewards you've faced along your journey?
Hosny Bronx: In fact, I face challenges all the time, I come from the ghetto, there are only challenges. I come from a hard life, like lots of people, you know. In the music too, you're alone and it's very hard, no one helps you and I don’t know why the music environment is so hard, it's a strange environment and they’re weird people because they think they’re humanists but they’re businessmen above all. Babylon is in the form of all colors with every day its rank of new accomplices who oppress the peoples. They like seeing us like that, it reassures them, but does it make them superior or inferior in doing so, is it not also a form of non-evolution of the civilization of certain peoples towards their common consciousnesses to accentuate a pain that is like a deep wound that is not healing. Moreover, this is the proof of the non-evolution of certain peoples. Love is the only remedy. Why forget those moments that make us happy with those we love. The world was wrong destiny, road, future, and we really have to rebuild everything, the world as we should, a world full of harmony and love with a clean and natural land. What you don’t think you have to discover it at first in you to be able to overcome it. For me, the challenge is to always build a new album, it's very complicated because you find yourself with yourself, and all those who are inside you, with little means and when you can’t go in the recording studio you’re blocked, and I hate to be blocked. We’re obliged to pay to live in this world, to survive, in fact I live like that for a long time so it’s my life. But I admit that psychologically, it’s not easy. I built my new album alone, seriously, with great discipline, I composed all my tracks and I played them, yes all the instruments, I sang my lead vocal and my backing vocals too. It was a long job, a very hard work you know. So these are everyday

challenges for all humans on earth and for some a hard life. I give my music to the world because Jah asks me to do it. And I think I still have a lot of challenges to overcome. My reward is to make many people happy on earth, give them courage and strength. My reward is to share my music. I thank all the media that allow to spread the music of God. 

Mistah Wilson: What do you plan to accomplish through your music?
Hosny Bronx: What I want to accomplish is a lot of things. I want to help children go to school, help disabled children to have a wheelchair so that they are better in their life. I want to help people rebuild their villages, I would like to help many orphanages in the world, that would be my real reward in this world, and my music exists for that. I want to give a good vibe, a good feeling. My music is there to tell people that the important thing is to be together, to feel united, to feel loved, to feel good about yourself. My music is a positive message, a message dedicated to humanity, a little light that enlightens those who are hoping for a better world. I’m a Rasta, we Rastas we spread a feeling, we love all humans. My music is the link between all peoples and all nations because Jah has no limit.
